CCU Missionary Baptist Church History
Founded On June 14, 1981 by our Pastor, Bishop Robert F. Hargrove, Sr. and with the support of his wife, Paula, the church began with eleven members. The congregation began to grow and as numbers increased, the body moved from his home at 19 Prichard Lane in Sicklerville, to Winslow School #3 and then to a church building on Church Rd, owned by Sicklerville Methodist. Needing a place of our own we were able to purchase 4.9 acres of land on Sicklerville and Grimes rd in 1985. On August 11, 1986, a bond program was instituted by the officers and members. Over the next 14 months, $230,000.00 in bonds were sold. With the vision God gave to build, Dr. Hargrove and our congregation were able to march into our new church edifice on February 14, 1988. The Lord was blessing and we outgrew the building capacity in 1993. It became necessary to expand and provide an 8am service in addition to the 11am service. A building committee was formed and in March of 1997 the addition was complete with eight administrative offices, six classrooms, and seating capacity in the sanctuary for over one thousand. It wasn't long before a 96 Unit Senior Housing was built to meet the needs of the senior citizens in the community. The Christ Care Unit Day Care opened in September 2003 and continues to grow as parents in the community have needs for their children to be taken care of as they go to work. The house next door to the church was purchased in 2004 and is now being used as a food and clothing pantry further ministering to the people in the community. A few years ago the Catholic church next to our food bank was merging with another in Williamstown and on February 25, 2010 CCU was able to purchase that building along with close to seven acres of land. Presently our Day Care is housed there as renovations were made in the summer of 2011 where we were able to turn it into a school with classrooms, cafeteria/gym, kitchen administrative offices, bathrooms and nurse's station. . During 2014 through 2015, construction was completed on 94 Townhomes for low to moderate income families on 32.9 acres of land valued at $2.9 million that was donated to the church by Heritage Builders in 2005. On November 8, 2014, Dr. Hargrove was consecrated to the office of Bishop and the Christ Care Covenant Fellowship of churches started where Bishop Hargrove is the Presiding Prelate. As the Lord continues to bless and lead our Pastor’s vision for the Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church and Cathedral, additional senior complex has been completed in the year 2020. In serving our community, 60 new townhomes were built during the 2021 year. We continue to grow spiritually in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as the Lord has blessed us abundantly.
Our Approach to Faith
We the members of Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church know that nothing can IMPACT your life like the Word of God. Anyone who has ever had an encounter with Jesus Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Savior are no longer the same. Jesus changes lives by changing people. The Bible teaches that we ought to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love thy neighbor as thyself. (Mark 12:30)
If we used this formula, our community would be a better place to live. This can only be achieved by letting the Word of God IMPACT your life in every way. Romans 10:9 states "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
